Proud sponsor of the overall winner’s NIBanc Cup
The Heineken Regatta Curaçao and the NIBanc Cup honor the long history of Curacao’s sailing traditions that started in 1499 when Alonso de Ojeda, a lieutenant of Christopher Columbus, first set foot on her shores.
Through the centuries, people from different cultures arrived on the island by wind-driven ships, building a peaceful society of multi-ethnic backgrounds, customs and religions. Today, Curaçao is home to 140.000 inhabitants living in a community enriched by more than 50 nationalities. This historic mix of diversity and culture has created a population that is truly unique even for the Caribbean in its ability to work and strive together to achieve a common goal.
Sailing also requires team work, and it embraces the discovery of diversities encountered along the way. In honor of this spirit of international teamwork so typical of Curaçao and the sport of sailing, NIBanc is pleased to award the NIBanc Cup in recognition of, and reward for the sportsmanship, focus, and skill of the overall winner of the Heineken Regatta Curaçao.
NIBanc extends a warm welcome to all participants and hope that each of you may discover and enjoy the pleasure of a ‘Real Different’ experience during the regatta.
