Heineken Regatta Curacao 2009
During the weekend of 6, 7, 8 November 2009 the 2nd Heineken Regatta Curacao took place. With even more boats and visitors than last year and with spectacular shows, the HRC 2009 was a great success!
The Unesco world heritage site: The Handelskade functioned once again as a perfect location for the Regatta Village. With a spectacular view on the Annabaai, the location of all the starts and finished, the visitor found them self’s at a great location to watch all the races and entertainment. The possibility to compete in different racing classes like: sailing yachts, sunfishes, fishers, micro boats, water skiers, surfers and kite surfers made this year’s edition once again Real Different!
On Thursday the 5th of November the HRC 2009 had started with a shopping night in Punda. This night was not as busy as expected but with a nice live band at the Wilhelmina Plein it was a good start for the HRC 2009.
On Friday the 6th of November The HRC 2009 was officially opened for the sailors with the Van Olst Commodores Cup and in the evening the NIBanc Cocktail Party at the Maritime Museum. The yearly returning NIBanc Cup was presented and the sailing competition had started.
On Saturday morning the 7th of November the first racing day had started and the Regatta Village had opened. In this village you could find all kinds of entertainment such as live theatre shows of Luna Blou, the UTS Family Pavilion, Ennia Handelskade and in the beginning of the evening the Illuminated Boat Parade. In the evening the well known artist who also preformed in the first edition of the HRC in 2008; Alison Hinds gave a fantastic show and made this day, a day to remember!
Sunday the 8th of November was the second racing day for the NIBanc Cup and yet another day in the Regatta Village with a lot of shows and entertainment. The Curacao Tourist Board organized a great carnival parade and there was a nice performance of GIO at the UTS Family Pavilion. After the price ceremony the main concert started with a remarkable show of Kevin Little! His show ended a perfect real different regatta weekend and made sure that the Heineken Regatta Curacao is here to stay!
