First edition of the Heineken Regatta Curacao a great success
In the weekend of 7,8 and 9 November 2008 Curacao experienced the first ever Heineken Regatta Curacao. The weekend evolved perfectly and everyone could enjoy the entertainment that was offered.
Friday 7 November the Heineken Regatta Curacao was officially opened for the sailors with the NIBanc cocktail party at the Maritime Museum. Here the NIBanc Cup was presented and Juni Julliet finished off the night with his great live performance on the piano. The ambiance was set for the weekend.
This weekend was not just about the sailors because the people of Curacao could enjoy this great sailing event from the Unesco world heritage site: the Handelskade. On this location the Heineken Regatta Village was built. The spectacular starts and finishes of the exciting races were in the Annabaai/Handelskade located in Willemstad so people could actually see all action. But this Regatta was real different in another way. Everything that floats was involved in different classes. Not sailing yachts only, but also sunfishes, fishers, micro boats, kite surfers, water skiers. There was also a beautiful lightning boat parade on saturday night. The atmosphere for both contestors and non-contestors was great.
And there was more. During the nights the Heineken Regatta Village became a premium concert area. Saturady night DJ Tico, winner of the Green Synergy, spinned his tables to excite the crowd with his beats. Basic One concluded the night with a spectacular show after which everyone could rest for the night and prepare themselves for Sunday.
On Sunday the main act was planned. The ‘Queen of Soca’ Alison Hinds visited Curacao specially for the Heineken Regatta, and she gave one hell of a show. Ever seen 7000 people dancing and singing Soca Style? No? You should have been there!!! She really made sure that this great weekend had an ending in style with a great party.
The impact of the weekend in Curacao was enormous. So the preparations for the second edition of the Heineken Regatta Curacao are already in full progress. If you want to join this unique event this year please visit:
